About this Museum

The South African Jewish Museum was officially opened
by Nelson Mandela in December 2000. The museum has the distinction of being housed in South Africa’s very first synagogue (fittingly named the Old Shul), built in 1863.
The museum features various permanent exhibitions related to Judaism through the ages, supported by a programme temporary exhibitions.
